KGRID: About This Project

About This Project

The objective of this project is to build a low cost power system measurement network for real time, Point On Wave (POW / time domain) power system measurements. Raw voltage measurements are recorded from low voltage (120/240VAC) wall outlets and sent to the central kestrelgrid.com server via Wi-Fi. Set up is simple, just plug in the sensor near a Wi-Fi router, connect to the sensor with a smartphone to enter Wi-Fi network credentials, and it's good to go. Sensors may be optionally be configured with a GPS antenna.

Data is currently being archived at 4-64 ksps and phasor measurements are calculated at 2 samples per second for web display. Since the raw time-domain data is archived, 60 sample per second phasors (or higher) or any additional analytics can be calculated offline.

Data is freely available for anyone interested. Currently our server consists of approximately 650 GB of raw time domain data across 5 measurement units, starting in March 2024. Contact me at ddaigle@daiglegrid.com if you would like to host a sensor, gain access to the data server, or otherwise collaborate.

Thank Yous

Thanks to my sister, Max Gallant, Miller Sartori, and Malcolm Bailey for hosting sensors.
